The Kwara State Town Plannning and Development Authority (KTPDA) yesterday demolished two petrol stations and some illegal structures within Ilorin metropolis for failing to get approval from the authority.

One of the demolished petrol stations was sited on waterway near Kuntu Bridge, Ilorin, while the other was directly opposite Alawonla Compound, Okelele, Ilorin.

The Executive Secretary of the authority, Mr. Raimi Adeoti, who led the demolition exercise, said that the owers of the structures were constructing without approval from proper quarters which made them illegal.

Adeoti said the construction of the petrol station will not only affect the free flow of water but would also endanger the lives of people living around the area.

Accoring to him, the authority has to take action because the safety of lives is very important, they would continue to destroy illegal structures expecially those on road setback to allow free flow of traffic in the state.

"It is dangerous to build on sidewalks. Government is determined to enfore town planning regulations to save lives and properties", he said.

It will be recalled that the authority had marked some structures for demolition and gave the onwers enough notice to remove buildings that contravened town planning laws.
