Kwara Assembly Passes District Courts Amendment Bill Into Law

The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday passed the District Courts Amendment Bill into law.

The bill which was sent to the House by the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed was passed into law after the House adopted the report of its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Judiciary on the bill.

Presenting the report on the floor of the House, the chairman of the committee, Barr. Kamaldeen Fagbemi said that all the stakeholders supported the passage of the bill during a public hearing on the bill.

The bill increases monetary jurisdiction of the District Court judges and gives power to the state chief judge to alter the jurisdiction of any District Court judge in civil matters.

The clerk of the House, Mr Oyetunde Oyeniyi yesterday read the bill for the third time and it was consequently passed into law.

The speaker, Mr Razak Atunwa said the bill was passed after it had satisfied the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kwara Assembly House Rule.
