Stock Exchange will galvanise the economy of Kwara
As the Nigerian Stock Exchange takes-off formally in Kwara State tomorrow, Economists say, it will go along way to galvanise the economy of the State.
A cross section of Economists gave this assurance in Lagos, while speaking with our Government House Correspondent, Abdul-Rahman Sanni on the siting of the Stock Exchange in Ilorin.
The General Manager of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mrs. Yetunde Idowu explained that the opening of the Ilorin Office of the stock exchange was to complement the industrial drive of Governor Bukola Saraki in the State.
Mrs. Idowu who expressed confident that the People of the State would benefit greatly from the Capital market through wealth and job creation as well as poverty alleviation, and enjoined the people of the north central zone, particularly Kawra State to avail themselves of the opportunity to improve their wellbeing.
In his view, the Managing Director of Central Security Clearing System in Nigeria, Doctor Emma Asinobi described the Nigerian stock Exchange as window to the economy of the World and expressed confidence that the establishment of the nineth stock exchange in Ilorin would open the State to the economy of other parts of the World.
The President of the Lagos Business School, Professor Pat Utomi said the decision to establish a capital market in Ilorin was a step in the right direction, pointing out that the prevailing Political and economic climate in the State, made the commencement of the stock exchange in the State long over due.
While praising Governor Bukola Saraki for ensuring its establishment, the President of Nigerian Institute of Stock Brokers and indigene of Kwara State, Chief Oni said stock Brokers in the Country and the Nigeria Stock Exchange would continue to partner with the Kwara State Government in the bid to make the economy of State compete with that of Lagos and other States.
It would be recalled that the Director-General of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, Professor Ndi Okereke had during the visit of Governor Saraki to the head Office in Lagos, given a formal approval for the immediate take-off of the red jacket business in the State.
