Kwara police parade suspects of Ilorin cult war
The Kwara State Police Commissioner, yesterday, paraded 11 suspects arrested in connection with last week’s break down of law and order at Baboko area of Ilorin metropolis where one Babatunde Sulaiman was killed.
The police boss said six cutlasses, one sword, one spear, a gallon of petrol, boxes of matches, unregistered Jetta Volkswagen car, charms and amulets were recovered from the suspects.
His words: ”On January 9, 2014 at 12.20 a.m, hoodlums numbering over a 100 were heard by residents of Baboko area of Ilorin shouting “kill them and destroy them,” firing gun shots indiscriminately and before the arrival of policemen, cars, houses and property yet to be evaluated were destroyed.
“One Babtunde Sulaiman, male, 18 years, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the course of the fracas.
“In the process of investigation, it was discovered that the crisis arose as a result of argument over a girl friend between two opposing groups of miscreants known as Adabata OPC and Baboko Boys”, he said
He added that the case was still under investigation.
The police command also paraded four members of a six-man robbery gang, and recovered exhibits such as three sharp cutlasses, one Toyota Corolla with number plate ABC 76, three motorcycles and two cut to size guns.
He said the robbers had allegedly attacked several houses in Ilorin metropolis and carted away items such as two Tecno handsets, jewelleries, one Toyota Corolla car with number plate LAGOS FE 464 APP, valued at N1,785,000.
