PDP crisis: "When 27 people leave 270,000 more will come" - Tukur boasts
The National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, yesterday said the party already knew that the Sokoto Sate House of Assembly members would eventually defect to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said this was because of the defection of the state governor, Aliyu Wamakko, to the APC.
Tukur, disclosed this in Abuja, shortly after inaugurating a 14-member caretaker committee for the Kwara State chapter of the PDP.
According to a report by Premium Times:
He described the defection of the lawmakers as “democracy in action”, adding that the PDP is not disturbed because just as the lawmakers left many more will join the PDP.
“When 27 people leave 270,000 more will come in. This is democracy in action. If few had left many would come in,” he said.
The 14-member caretaker committee that was inaugurated would be led by Solomon Edoja.
Mr. Tukur charged the committee to ensure that the PDP maintains its supremacy in Kwara state.
The committee was inaugurated because the former State Executive Committee had defected to the All Progressives Congress, alongside Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Mr. Tukur also announced that a caretaker Committee would be inaugurated for Sokoto state, after the Executive council in the state also defected to the APC with Governor Aliyu Wamakko.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Mr Edoja assured the PDP that it will still produce the next Governor of Kwara State after the 2015 election.
