"We're in APC To Improve Nigerians' Welfare" - Saraki
The chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr Bukola Saraki has disclosed that the current struggle by him and other members of the former new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) that joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), is geared towards ensuring the wellbeing of Nigerians.
He said those in the struggle were prepared to face “some discomfort that the struggle for liberation of the Nigerian people can come with”.
Saraki spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital during an annual public lecture and dinner organised by a group of Ilorin Emirate indigenes under the aegis of Klob 27.
The former governor of Kwara State and initiator of commercial farming in Shonga, stressed that agriculture remains the only surest path to give Nigerians economic freedom.
According to him, the model of large scale commercial farming had been experimented and succeeded in the state. He added that it is the same model initiated in the state eight years ago that the federal government is now launching.
He said, “The time has come that we must tell ourselves the truth and change the path of this country. This is a great country that has a lot of potentials. We all sit in our rooms and we complain and moan, we moan about corruption, we moan about impunity, we moan about this, we moan about that. We have seen what is possible to do in this state and we believe with the right commitment by all of us, those achievements are possible at the federal level.
“We should either prepare to do or not to do anything because it is comfortable not doing anything, it is uncomfortable trying to change the system. But we must change the system because what God has blessed us with, there is nothing else we can do than to make man and woman next door to you to also be comfortable. There is no comfort if a man or a woman next door to you lives in poverty, that’s not comfort. Comfort is when all of us are out of poverty and Insha Allah we shall get there”.
