Kwara Speaker urges ICAO to address incessant plane crashes

The International Civil Aviation Organisation  (ICAO) has been urged to come to the aid of Nigeria in addressing the incessant plane crashes in the country.

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Razak Atunwa made the call in Ilorin while reacting to the plane crash conveying the body of the former governor of  Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.

BarristerAtunwa in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Sanni insisted vehemently that the nation cannot afford to continue to loose her valuable human resources to unabated plane crashes in the country.

He noted with displeasure that the nation had experienced more than 50 plane crashes since she attained her independence 53 years ago and called for full investigation into the cause of the incident as well as political will in implementing measures aimed at checking the trend.

He said what Nigeria needs at this time is tremendous improvement in aviation safety to safeguard the future of the nation.

BarristerAtunwa sympathized with the Agagu family, families of the victims, government and people of Ondo State over the tragic incident and prayed God to grant them eternal rest and the victims' families, government and people of Ondo State the fortitude to bear the great losses.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has condoled the management, board and players of Kwara United over the sudden death of Sanni Abacha.

He described Sanni Abacha as a great footballer who had contributed significantly to the progress of the club and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
