Ilorin: Vigilance members arraigned for robbery

Two persons,Abdulrahman Yusuf, 21 and Ismail Akanbi, 23, both of Opomalu community, Ilorin, Kwara State, who claimed to be members of a vigilante group, have been arraigned before an Ilorin magistrates' court for allegedly involving in series of robbery cases within Ilorin metropolis.

The accused appeared in the court on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief, robbery and being in possession of stolen handsets. The offences contravene Section 97, 248,327, 298 and 319 of Penal Code Law.

One Kehinde Olayide of No. 5, Asumara Lane, Balogun Fulani Area, Ilorin and seven others have indicted the accused at 'C' Division Police Station, Oja Oba, Ilorin, that they and other members of their gang now at large, robbed them and carted away their valuables.

According to the complainants, the accused inflicted bodily injuries, robbed them of their GSM handsets, money and other valuable items and also destroyed their properties.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State CID, Ilorin, revealed that the first accused, Illiasu Yunusa (now at large), criminally conspired with the two accused and one Taofeek Mohammed with others now at large to rob the victims of their belongings.

The FIR also stated in the process of the robbery, the accused inflicted grievous bodily injuries on their victims while others were at hospital receiving treatment.

The FIR further said that the investigation revealed that some of the stolen GSM handsets were recovered fron the first accused (now at large) while a cut to size axe and a kitchen knife were recovered from the accused.

The court adjourned the case till April 13, 2012 for further mention.
