Press Release - Labour Demands: PDP Warns Kwara APC

Date: 2014-03-01

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Kwara State has warned the All Progressive Congress, (APC) led government in the state to embark on policies that will have direct bearing on the lives of the citizenry rather than pursuing shadow-like programmes.

PDP also advises Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to ensure the that he find solutions to the demands of the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state as contained in their letter addressed to him dated 27th February 2014.

We warn the governor not treat their demands with neither levity nor sweep the letter under the carpet just like every other request forwarded by the Labour Unions with the understanding that any attempt to do so will definitely cripple the state and further subject the masses to hardship.

As contained in the letter, the JNC had demanded the following;

1. Immediate stoppage of MDG deduction.

2. All issues surrounding Zenith Bank shares should be resolved within two weeks as agreed upon.

3. Full implementation of Minimum Wage of GL.07 and above in the state and Local Government in relation to the relativity issues of the 53.37 percent increment.

4. Full implementation of 100 percent COHHESS.

5. Implementation of Weighing Allowance to State own media (Kwara Television, The Herald, and Radio Kwara) workers in the state.

6. Immediate payments of the gratuities to all the retirees in the Local Government and Primary School.

All these issues are on ground and you are pretending that 'It is good here in Kwara'. Who is fooling who? We however warn and advise the Kwara APC and its allies to be concerned about the welfare of the masses rather than sharing stipends which cannot solve any problems of members at the party level.

Also, be aware that civil servants and pensioners are the major driving force of any reasonable society going by their current service to the state and that which retirees have discharged during their active years in service, don't undermine what they can do to uplift the society.

Kwara PDP therefore assured workers to be patient and take solace in the fact that APC-led government's day is numbered as it going to be voted out through the ballot in the forthcoming general election and there and then "Kwarans will be totally free from bondage".

Mohammed Mariam Alhassan
Chairman, Publicity Committee Kwara PDP
