Autocrash claims four in Ilorin
City Rove gathered from an impeccable source yesterday that the accident occurred around Olorunsogo, Danialu of Upper Gaa-Akanbi area at about 5pm following a brake failure of the tipper.
It was learnt that the brake failure of the vehicle resulted in multiple crash as other vehicles on the road were badly damaged.
Similarly, two tricycles were said to have been completely wreaked beyond repairs.
Our reporter also gathered that four persons including two commercial motorcycle riders, one passenger and a pedestrian were crushed at the spot.
It could not be immediately ascertained whether they were all killed on the spot as the source insisted that the victims died before medical attention could reach them.
Unspecified number of people, amongst whom were passersby were also trapped, thus sustaining degrees of injuries.
The injured, our reporter gathered, were rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.
City Rove learnt that the tipper driver, upon realizing the gravity of the accident and possible consequences, fled the scene to avoid mob attack.
It was gathered the damaged vehicles and the tipper had been taken to the State Traffic Office of A Division of the Kwara State Police command for necessary investigations into the immediate and remote cause of the incident.
City Rove’s effort to speak with a leader of tricycle riders at Upper Gaa-Akanbi roundabout, popularly referred to as Omo-Olope, were futile as he was said not to be around when our reporter visited the area at about 8:30am yesterday.
In a telephone chat yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident but insisted that one person died while four others sustained injuries.
He disclosed that the affected vehicles were being detained at the state Traffic Office of the state police command to aid further investigations into the incident.
