Kwara Football Academy, Ilorin, goalkeeper Adeyinka Adewale was the hero as KFA defeated hard-fighting National Foundation Academy, Ughelli in an explosive final match played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, on Sunday to lift the NNPC/Shell Cup 2012.

The game had ended 2-2 after extra time and Adewale proved the saviour for KFA diving to the right, then to the left and then to the right again to stop NFA's second, third and fourth penalties and help KFA win the shootout 3-1.

KFA took an early lead through a penalty but NFA's Elijah Akinjide coolly slotted past Adewale to make score 1-1. But the Ilorin side went ahead just before the break with a classic goal with midfielder Adeshina Gata easily rounding off the NFA keeper.

Ererhuene Sheriff equalised for NFA in the second half to send the game into extra time. KFA then threw away a penalty in the second half of extra time before Adewale showed his class in the eventual shootout to send KFA and their fans into rapturous jubilation.
