Al-Hikmah varsity, COE matriculate 5,060 students
A Kwara State-based university, Al-Hikmah University and the College of Education, Ilorin, have matriculated 5,060 students for the 2013/2014 academic session.
While the university admitted 1,060 new students, Kwara State College of Education enrolled 4,000.
Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Sulyman AbdulKareem, in his address urged the new intakes to focus on their academic pursuits.
He warned them against examination malpractice, cultism and other social vices, noting that the punishment that awaits any student found engaged in such vices is expulsion.
Professor AbdulKareem said the university, as a faith-based institution, expects its students to be different from ordinary Nigerian undergraduates, adding, “you must realize that your parents and guardians chose this place for a purpose and therefore expect from you genuine consciousness of your duties to Allah and humanity, excellent result in character and learning.”
The Provost of the College of Education, Dr. Isiaka Opobiyi, urged the matriculating students to face their studies with all seriousness.
He also admonished them to shun all acts that could ruin their lives such as cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and drunkenness among others.
