'I took to robbery to boost my fortunes'

A robbery suspect, Segun Daudu,  on Tuesday, told officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps that he left legitimate jobs for armed robbery.

Daudu, who was paraded by Kwara State Command of NSCDC, said, "I worked as machine operator at a saw mill and also operated commercial motorcycle business before I decided to boost my fortunes through robbery.

"This is my third robbery operations. I do not know why I steal. I left several legitimate jobs that I was doing without any serious reason."

The state Commandant, the NSCDC, Mr.  Yerima Gana, said the suspect was arrested by the NSCDC officials on patrol.

He added that some buyers of the stolen goods from the suspect had been arrested.

He said, "On August 4, 2013, at 12 noon in Osin Aremu, Asa Dam Road in Ilorin West Local Government, one Segun Daudu of Ile Daudu, Otun Egbe, Kogi State, 47 years, forced the door of  a house belonging to Mr. Ibrahim Ali open. Dauda went inside and stole some property belonging to Ali.

"The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to the crime. He has also helped us to apprehend those that bought stolen goods from him after every successful robbery operation.
