Opinion - NGF Election: Gov Ahmed is a Disgrace to Kwara - CPC

Date: 2013-05-29

Our Party has watched bewildered the utterly unprogressive moves of the Kwara State Governor in the run up to the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) elections and the intrigues that eventually trailed it.

We are disappointed beyond description that Gov Fatai Ahmed would align with the retrogressive in the NGF in their plot to foist a roundly unpopular candidate on the country, whose candidacy clearly bears the imprimatur of presidential interloper meddlesomeness.

We are at a loss as to why the Governor would disregard the mood of the majority of Kwarans, which obviously is with the Gov Rotimi Ameachi-led leadership of the NGF, but go on a frolics of his own in Abuja,...Fatai Ahmed's alleged thoughtless endorsement of Mr. Jonah Jang's belated NGF chairmanship candidacy and his subsequent ignoble gang-up with a few other renegade Governors to orchestrate an artificial crisis in the NGF is to say the least a misrepresentation of the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Kwara State by virtue of whom Mr Fatai is enjoying his seat as a Governor.

It is inconceivable in a democracy that a representative of a people would carry about like the Lord of the Manor, without according a modicum of regard to the innermost aspirations of the people who put him or her into power. Putting party politics over and above the legitimate dictate of the people of the state is a mockery of democracy and the rule of law. It is unfortunate that this has become a pastime of some sort of the Messrs Fatai Ahmed-led government of Kwara State; if he is not acquiring people's property with reckless abandon, he is demolishing multi-million Naira private structures without adequate compensation under the guise of urban renewal, a thoughtless action that has brought the state in constant confrontation with the people either in court or even on the street. But this time, Mr Ahmed has taken his disrespect for the people of the state to a ridiculous extent. By willfully conniving with the enemy of the masses and creating a parallel NGF from the Rotimi Ameachi-led body and thereby deliberately overheating the polity, Mr. Fatai Ahmed has brought shame to the good people of Kwara state, who have always been known with progressivism and clean sense of justice and fair play.

It is in the light of the above that we demand that Mr. Ahmed immediately retrace his step and halt further support for the renegade faction that is bent on overheating the delicate polity of the country. Anything shot of this is tantamount to a further denigration of the people, which our party definitely does not subscribe to.
