5,000 People Benefit from Free Medical Tests by AMLSN in Kwara

The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Kwara State chapter, has carried out free screening among over 5,000 people on various forms of illness in different communities.

The association also referred some of those screened where appropriate.

Speaking at a community-based free screening exercise to commemorate the 2013 World Biomedical Science Day at Budo Nuhu, Egbejila community in Ilorin, the Chairman of the group in the state, Mr. Olatunbosun Luqman, assured residents of the commitment of association to complement efforts of the state government towards quality health care delivery.

He also said that the association would continue in its efforts to ensure accurate healthy living condition of the populace through the application of scientific techniques and method of analysis.

Mr. Luqman said that the subjecting body fluids, tissues and human waste products to thorough laboratory test as it relates to the state of health of individuals, was vital to human existence.

“The major roles of this union is to promote high standards in medical laboratory science education, periodic academic and intellectual trainings of member as well as organisation of career talk in secondary schools and tertiary institutions among others,” he said.

He, however, lamented the increase in the rates of untimely death among young and old resulting from lack of proper and regular check-up by the people due to various reasons such as economic, social and most importantly, ignorance.

Meanwhile, the Chief Imam of the community, Alhaji Sodiq Imam, commended the giant strides of the union in bringing such a laudable programme to the area for the benefit of the masses with no cost attached to it.

He also urged the people to troop out for the exercise so as to facilitate their sound health through adequate medical test and counselling even as he prayed fervently for the team and the authorities of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, (UITH) at large.
