Club Owners, League Body on the Warpath
Owners of clubs featuring in the Nigeria Professional Football League are poised for a showdown with the Interim Management Committee over the decision of the committee to abandon them (club owners) on matters relating to league in the country.
Tribunesport reliably scooped that the club owners met in Akure on Wednesday to discuss the issue of the IMC on its decision to register League Management Company, and agreed that they will go headlong with the committee on league matters.
Also, it was disclosed to Tribunesport that the club owners frowned on the way the IMC, headed by Nduka Irabor, runs the affairs of the league in the country without carrying them along being major stakeholders in administration and running of clubs in the country.
Aside this, the decision of the IMC to register League Management Company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) did not go down well with the club owners because the move was sinister to the development of the league, and the club owners felt the move was aimed at personalising the league to the detriment of the clubs.
However, Tribunesport gathered from a member of the club owners who attended the Akure meeting that, final meeting of the club owners has been scheduled for today where a decision would be taken .
"We are not happy with the IMC at all because of the way they have been running the league and most particularly with the registration of League Management Company by IMC which shows that the league belongs to them and leave us, the club owners in the dark," said a club owner who was in Akure for the meeting.
Meanwhile, the IMC has commenced move to stall today's meeting in Abuja by trying to break the rank and file of the club owners and as a result of this, officials of some clubs are non-committal.
Those in attendance at the Akure meeting were officials of Wikki Tourists, Kwara United FC,Ilorin, Sunshine FC,Warri Wolves,Enyimba, 3SC among others.
