In-Fighting in ACN Threatens Kwara APC

Date: 2013-04-04

In fighting in the Kwara State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, is now threatening the All Progressive Congress, APC, expected to fully kick off later this month in the state.

The party had during Easter break announced the removal of the Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee, Mr. Kayode Olawepo, and replaced him with his Secretary, Mr. Toyin Ayinla.

But Olawepo’s committee and other members of the party yesterday described the action as unconstitutional.

ACN had said Olawepo’s removal was to reposition “the party ahead of the tasks ahead”.

However, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Local Government Area Chairmen, Mr. Ayanda Fejenyo, told our correspondent yesterday that the “purported meeting where the decision was taken was illegal and wrongly constituted.”

He said the Caretaker Committee could only be removed by the national body who put it in place and that the committee did not in recent times neither did it take such decision.

Also, Fajenyo and Alhaji Raimi Idera said in a statement that “the decision to remove our party chairman in Kwara State is being nursed and nurtured by a former governorship candidate of the party and his cronies using the media to achieve what they could not achieve in the real sense of it.”
