Kwara Rrainstorm Victims Get N11m Relief Materials

Date: 2013-02-27

Kwara State government, yesterday, gave relief materials worth N11 million to the victims of rainstorm in Ilorin.

It would be recalled that the first rainfall two weeks ago blew off rooftops of several buildings in Ilorin, the state capital, rendering many residents homeless.

Speaking while distributing the materials, Special Adviser to the governor on Emergency and Relief Services, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, said the gesture followed an assessment of some of the damaged property by the state emergency committee.

The items distributed include roofing sheets, roofing nails, mattresses and blankets.

Abdullahi said the items would go a long way in relieving the victims and cushioning the effect of the disasters.

He said: “On the order of Governor Ahmed and as part of his commitment to the welfare of the people, the government directed us to pay a sympathy visit and we discovered most of the victims were massively affected which turned them to refugees.”
