Moro Stakeholders Urge Tinubu and AbdulRazaq to End Decades of Political Neglect
Stakeholders from Moro Local Government Area in Kwara State have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to address what they describe as decades of political neglect and underdevelopment in the Kwara North Senatorial District.
In an open letter titled "Moro Local Government and the Quest for Justice in Kwara North," the group expressed concern that Moro has remained sidelined politically since Nigeria's return to democratic governance in 1999, despite being one of the five local governments in the district.
The statement, released by Aliyu Ibrahim on behalf of the stakeholders, alleged that Moro has not produced a senator, House of Representatives member, minister, ambassador, or any significant state or federal officeholder in nearly 25 years.
They noted that other local governments in the district Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi have consistently occupied key political positions at both state and federal levels, while Moro has been left out of the power structure.
According to the group, this long-standing exclusion has contributed to the area's underdevelopment, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
They mentioned the poor condition of the Shao-Moro and Jebba-Moro roads, stating that the situation continues to hinder transportation, economic activities, and access to healthcare services across many communities.
The stakeholders also pointed to insufficient healthcare facilities and overcrowded schools, arguing that these challenges stem from weak political representation and limited advocacy over the years.
"Moro stands alone. For nearly a quarter of a century, the local government has not produced a senator, House of Representatives member, minister, ambassador, or any notable federal board appointee," the statement read.
They rejected claims that Moro is politically isolated within Kwara North, emphasising that the area is home to diverse ethnic groups including Yoruba, Nupe, Hausa, and Baruba who coexist peacefully.
The group urged political leaders in Kwara State to support a candidate from Moro for the Kwara North Senatorial seat in 2027, describing it as a step toward fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced representation.
They also appealed to the president and governor to intervene by correcting what they termed an imbalance in appointments and by prioritising infrastructure development in Moro communities.
