Ahmed nominates three for KWSIEC
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has forwarded the names of three nominees for the State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) to the state House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nominees, according to the governor’s message which was read at the plenary by the Speaker, Barrister Razak Atunwa, are Barrister A. T. Ahmed from Adewole Ward in Ilorin West; Engr. Alabi Oba Asaju from Magaji Aare Ward 1 in Ilorin East and Toye Azeez Akinlami from Ikotun Ward in Oyun Local Government Area.
The governor said their nomination was sequel to the elapse of terms of the members occupying the seats, adding that their appointment became imperative for optimum performance of the commission.
He appealed to the House to screen and confirm the nominees to enhance the performance of the commission.
The Speaker later asked the nominees to submit their documents before February 26 and appear for screening on February 28.
Meanwhile, the House has urged the state governor to construct Agbo-Oba-Mini Campus-Kuntu road in Ilorin metropolis within the 2013 budget.
The House made the plea in its recommendations after considering the report of its Committee on Energy, Works and Transport presented by its Chairman, Hon. Moshood Bakare on a petition titled “A proposal for urgent construction of roads in Agbo-Oba area by Agbo-Oba/Adewole Joint Forum”.
The forum had at the plenary on October 4, 2012 through Hon. Bakare decried the deplorable condition of the road and prayed the House to assist them in urgently facilitating the construction.
The legislature also called on Ilorin West Local government to grade Agbo-Oba-Mini Campus-Kuntu road and provide temporary bridge/culvert on C. A. C Church-Kuntu road to ease movement of road users.
