Kwara PDP Affirms Loyalty to Party, to Participate Fully in Abuja Convention

Date: 2026-03-26

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has said that the party in the state is not aligned with any of the factions, maintaining that it remains united.

Reading his party's communique to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, after an emergency meeting, the state chairman of the party, Isa Adamu, said that the party is unaffected by the internal schism rocking the PDP at the national level.

The party also declared its intention to attend the March 29 national convention scheduled for Abuja, saying that Kwara PDP "is non-aligned. We don't belong to any of the tendencies in the PDP".

"We are in love with PDP. We will not leave PDP unless it reaches a point that it is no longer a viable vehicle for contest in Nigeria.

"Now that has not happened because the law as at today recognises the Abdulraman-led PDP. All the aspirants and other stakeholders had unanimously agreed to go to the Abuja convention, to watch if INEC will be there. If we see INEC there, we will participate fully".

The communique reads: "The stakeholders agreed that we should send delegates to fully participate in the coming convention.

"It was also decided that if the national convention is successful, and is witnessed by the regulatory body (INEC) as it is required by law, then we the stakeholders, will hold another meeting to review the situation and recommend to our leader to use the PDP as the platform for us to contest the 2027 general elections.

"We also concluded that the PDP remains a very popular, credible, well-known, widely accepted and solid platform and brand in all the 16 local government areas of our state, such that no other political party can match its reach and acceptability in the state."
