Ilorin Comprehensive High School Alumni Commission Classroom Blocks to Mark 30th Anniversary
Alumni of Ilorin Comprehensive High School (ICOHS) in Kwara State have marked the school's 30th anniversary by commissioning several infrastructure projects. The initiatives, which were inaugurated by the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji AbdulMumin Malik, are aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students.
The projects include the refurbishment of two blocks containing five classrooms, donated by the general body of the ICOHS Alumni Association. Additionally, the 2004 set renovated the "Sekoni Block," consisting of two classrooms, while the 2005 set provided four solar-powered street lights to improve security and visibility on the school grounds. The celebration also featured the official naming of "ICOHS Street."
Alumni President Jimoh Mustapha credited the success of the projects to a collaborative effort between the alumni, the IEDPU, and the school's Board of Governors. While commissioning the projects, IEDPU President Malik praised the alumni for their "seriousness and organisation," noting that their commitment has restored confidence in the school's management and earned the Union's continued support.
Malik commended the Alumni Association, under Mustapha's leadership, describing their interventions as impactful and transformative. He noted that IEDPU had previously suspended subventions to the school due to poor coordination but said the renewed structure, accountability, and commitment demonstrated by the alumni and the board had restored confidence in the school's management.
"We are now ready to fully support ICOHS. What we are seeing today shows seriousness, organisation, and genuine commitment to the growth of the school. I urge the alumni to sustain the momentum and intensify their support for the institution," Malik said.
At a luncheon and award ceremony held later at the IEDPU Secretariat, event lecturer Prof. Fatai Aremu urged the school to harness the strength of its alumni network for sustainable development.
According to him, ICOHS alumni have built strong networks and excelled across various fields, which could be leveraged for mentorship, capacity building, and institutional growth.
"The alumni of this school have created contacts, established networks, and excelled in numerous fields, which I believe the school can harness for their greater good. In the next 30 years, we should be celebrating even greater successes and development of ICOHS," Aremu said.
Highlights of the event included awards to pioneer teachers in recognition of their service, as well as distinguished alumni, including Chief of Staff to the Minister of Youth Development, Muhammad Abdullahi; journalist Dare Akogun of the 2003 set; and Abdulateef Olaseri of the 2004 set, for their contributions to the coordination and strengthening of the Alumni Association.
