Hundreds of SDP Members in Patigi LGA Join Kwara PDP Ahead of Crucial 2027 Elections

Date: 2025-11-25

Hundreds of members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State have dumped the party and joined the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the 2027 general election.

The defectors, according to THISDAY checks, cut across the Patigi Ward 3 of the local government area.

The defectors, led by Hon. Mayaki Dauda, praised the leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki and expressed confidence in the PDP's ability to restore purposeful and inclusive governance in Kwara State come 2027.

The defectors paid their loyalty and solidarity visit to the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Bashir Ashura.

Receiving the defectors, Hon. Ashura described the gathering as "a strong reaffirmation of the community's loyalty to Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and the PDP in the state."

Ashura, who was accompanied by the Patigi Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Kolo Nehemiah, along with other executives, elders, youths, and women leaders, thanked the Patigi Ward for their "overwhelming support" and urged all members to remain united and focused.

He emphasised that "the PDP remains the party of the people under the credible leadership of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki."

Ashura also criticised the APC-led administration under Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing it of eroding the state's longstanding values of unity and responsible governance.

"The APC government has damaged the long history of inclusiveness, harmony, and responsible governance in Kwara State," he said.

He warned party faithful to ensure that "such affliction does not rise again."

He urged the ward to intensify grassroots mobilisation and continue rallying behind the PDP to secure resounding victory in future elections.
