Kwara United and Other Nigerian Representatives to Enjoy Increased CAF Financial Rewards
Clubs participating in this year's Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions, including Nigerian representatives such as Kwara United, will benefit from increased financial rewards following a decision by CAF's Executive Committee.
The resolution, announced during a meeting in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday, ahead of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, doubles prize money for clubs in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. Previously, participants received $50,000 per match last season. This year, the amount has been raised to $100,000 per club to incentivise competitive performances and support financial sustainability for African clubs.
The move aims to enhance the competitiveness of African club football while providing clubs with greater resources to invest in infrastructure and player development. Nigerian clubs, including Kwara Unitedrecently crowned President's Federation Cup champions stand to gain significantly from the enhanced financial incentives.
Nigeria's Remo Stars and Rivers United will fly the flag in the Champions League, while Abia Warriors and Kwara United will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
