Kwara Anglican Diocese Unveils Multi-Million Naira Farm to Boost Food Security
As reported by Punch, the Kwara Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has launched a multi-million naira agricultural initiative to enhance food security and sufficiency nationwide.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, as part of the Diocese's 50th-anniversary celebrations, Bishop Rt Revd Sunday Adewole shared that the church plans to cultivate cassava and maize on a 25-hectare plot in the upcoming farming season.
Highlighting the current economic challenges, the Bishop noted that this agricultural project aims to boost youth employment and skills development, benefiting both church members and the wider community.
He further revealed that a female member of the Church has contributed 500 bags of fertiliser to support the initiative, which he described as a foundational investment for the next 50 years.
As part of other investment programmes of the church, the Bishop also said that the church had secured a land to build a multi-million naira 3,500-capacity event hall in Ilorin, the state capital in 2025.
He explained that the church planned to upgrade a skill acquisition centre that was established by the women in the church with the requisite equipment, shops, and financial capacity.
On the state of the nation, the cleric blamed the current sociopolitical challenges on both the leadership and followership in the polity.
Adewole noted that the present administration is trying to fix the myriad of challenges bedevilling the country, stressed that the majority of the population outside government are not better than political office holders.
