Kwara Police Parade Suspected Cultist for Alleged Murder of Ilorin Hotelier

Date: 2024-09-01

News report from The Nation indicates that the Kwara State Police Command has paraded a 37-year-old member of the Eiye Confraternity for allegedly murdering a 43-year-old hotelier, Anthony Kayode Balogun, in Ilorin.

Anthony was reportedly shot and killed by gunmen, suspected to be cultists, on August 8, 2024, in front of his hotel located in the Olunlade area of the Ilorin metropolis.

The arrested suspect, Abolarin Samuel Idowu, also known as Sam Caro, is in custody, while his two accomplices remain at large.

Parading the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya said: “Abolarin Samuel Idowu was arrested at his hideout near Conoil Filling Station in the Italamu area of Ilorin.

“A search conducted at the time of his arrest led to the recovery of a locally fabricated gun and three live cartridges.

“The suspect admitted to being a member of the notorious Eiye secret cult. Further investigation revealed that Abolarin Samuel Idowu, along with his accomplices Alowonle (aka Aloo) and Samuel (aka Sam Febee-Kay), was responsible for the murder of Anthony Kayode Balogun.

“The killing was reportedly a revenge mission for a 2022 cult anniversary celebration during which the deceased allegedly ordered the killing of an Eiye Confraternity member named Abbay.

“Additional searches at various criminal hideouts led to the recovery of other exhibits such as two locally made shotguns, one cut-to-size locally made gun, one multipurpose battle axe, eight live cartridges, one locally made sword, one cutlass, one pair of pliers and two bottles of an unknown liquid, suspected to be a hard drug.

“Despite these advances, challenges were encountered during subsequent operations. On August 18 and 19, 2024, tactical teams faced significant resistance from other cult members while attempting to arrest additional suspects and recover further evidence.
