Palliatives: Hoodlums Hijack Truckloads Of Rice In Kwara
Hoodlums have reportedly hijacked three truckloads of rice meant for distribution in some communities in Kwara State.
It was learnt that the incident happened at the Oja-Oba/Idi-Ape/Isale-Oja areas of Ilorin West and Ilorin East local government areas of the state around 6:30pm on Friday, a few meters to the 'C' division police station.
The miscreants were said to have attacked and hijacked the Toyota Dana trucks loaded with bags of 10kg of rice while they were passing through the area to some destinations in the state.
A video of the incident went viral on some social media platforms in the state on Sunday.
Witnesses, including traders and market women, said the three trucks loaded with bags of rice were emptied by the attackers.
The development, however, led to a free-for-all as people scrambled to get a share of the bags that were thrown at them by the hoodlums inside the trucks who also went away with the bags unchallenged.
Residents said police operatives later arrived in the area and questioned some people but made no arrests.
A senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said the operatives were later dispatched to some areas to fish out the criminals.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the Kwara Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, said he was not aware of the incident.
He said he would get back to our correspondent did not as of the time of filing this report on Sunday evening.
