Date: 2023-07-20

The Worldwide Alumni Association of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, on Wednesday, cried out over the encroachment of a large chunk of the institution’s land.

The association said it will initiate a process to recover the institution’s land, asking the encroachers to immediately vacate the illegally occupied land.

The management of the institution had in an advertorial published by LEADERSHIP on Monday, warned that it will commence the demolition of all illegal structures on the institution’s land seven days after the date of the publication.

The protem president of Kwara Polytechnic Alumni Association, Engr Abu Salami, at a news conference in Ilorin, the state capital said that the encroachment on the Polytechnic’s property has grave implications for the future of the institution.

“As many of you may be aware, Kwara State Polytechnic, our esteemed institution of learning and innovation, has been confronted with an alarming issue of unauthorized occupation and construction on its
lands. Private and commercial buildings have encroached upon the polytechnic’s property, posing significant challenges and threats to the institution’s growth and development.

“This encroachment has grave implications for the future of Kwara State polytechnic. It not only violates the rightful ownership and boundaries of the institution but also hinders its ability to provide quality education to the community.

“The encroachments impede the expansion plans of the polytechnic and undermine its
efforts to create a conducive learning environment for students.

“To those who have encroached upon Kwara state polytechnic lands, we issue a stern warning. Your actions are not only illegal but also detrimental to the progress and future of our beloved institution. We demand that you immediately vacate the unlawfully occupied areas and cease any further encroachment,” Salami stated.

While urging the Kwara State government to intervene in the matter, Salami added that the Alumni Association “will support all efforts by the appropriate authorities to reclaim the institution’s lands.”
