Governor AbdulRazaq meets UNDP chief Yahya, gets support for Kwara's social security efforts
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has on Tuesday met with the Resident Representative to Nigeria for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Mohamed Yahya.
In the fruitful deliberation, Governor AbdulRazaq got the assurances of the UNDP chief to support cash transfers to the most vulnerable people in the state as part of its COVID-19 recovery support initiative.
The UNDP is a non-profit organisation that supports governments to meet their long-term development aspirations.
Kwara is one of the few states in Nigeria that attaches a high premium on social security and investment programmes since the coming of Governor AbdulRazaq.
Through the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes (KWASSIP) established by the Goi in 2019, several thousands of vulnerable people have been assisted and empowered, with young entrepreneurs getting million naira support funds.
Beneficiaries also include petty traders, the aged, transporters, school owners, among others.
The UNDP chief also shared the story of the meeting on his Twitter page.
“Had the pleasure meeting with Governor @RealAARahman of #Kwara State. We discussed his development priorities for the state. @UNDPNigeria will support cash transfers to the most vulnerable people in #Kwara as part of our ongoing #Covid recovery support to Nigerian states,” he wrote.
