New Revenue Formula, State Creation, Others Dominate Sessions in Borno, Benue, Kwara, Jigawa
LIKE in other parts of the country, the constitutional review in Kwara, Benue, Borno, and Jigawa states witnessed mass turnout with the people calling for more revenue allocation to states, new states, removal of immunity clause for the president, vice president, governors, among other issues.
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, at the public hearing on review of the constitution in Maiduguri at the weekend advocated urgent review of the revenue formula sharing to address the increasing financial responsibilities of states and the councils in the country.
Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, also urged support for the creation of one state each from the six geo-political zones.
Moro made the appeal at the weekend at a forum on consultative people's public session on the review of the 1999 Constitution in Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu federal constituency in Benue State.
In Kwara South Senatorial District, Senator, Simeon Ajibola representing the district was shouted down when he apparently argued against the creation of a new state out of the present Kwara State.
The people strongly agitated for the creation of Igbomina State along with their kith and kin in two councils of Osun State.
Meanwhile, Secretary General for the Movement for the Creation of Hadejia State, Musa Shuaibu, has advocated the removal of the immunity clause that protects the president and governors.
