Nigeria at 52 - "Nigeria is a land of hope" - Governor Ahmed

Date: 2012-10-01

As Nigeria marks its 52 independent anniversary, governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has once again described the country as a land of hope and unlimited potentials.

In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, the governor said as the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world, Nigeria is destined to be one of the greatest countries of the world.

According to the governor, having been listed among the "Next Eleven" economies and as the world's 39th largest economy, Nigeria is poised for greater prosperity. Governor Ahmed emphasized that factors such as large population, abundant material resources, rich culture, conducive natural environment are signposts of a great nation.

Expressing optimism, Ahmed said, "that this country in the last 52 years has survived coups d'etat and counter coups d'etat, religious insurgencies and natural disasters, tell me that this nation is not only destined to survive but to be one of the world's greatest".

He advised Nigerians to have unshakeable faith in the Nigeria project in spite of the current challenges which are not unsurmountable.

According to him, if we remain committed to the ideals of building a united and virile nation, Nigeria will remain a flagship in the comity of Nations across the globe.

The Governor advised Nigerians to eschew divisive tendencies such as religious intolerance and ethnic bigotry that could hinder aspirations for National growth.
