Kwara House to Probe Bureau of Lands
The Kwara State House of Assembly is to probe the activities of the Bureau of Lands since its inception to ensure transparency, accountability and correct the misconception about its operations.
The bureau was carved out of the state's Ministry of Lands to give more attention to land allocations and transactions.
Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Razak Atunwa, disclosed this in Ilorin while reacting to a matter of public importance raised by a member representing Ilorin Constituency, Saadu Yusuf Tanke, over widespread rumour that the state government had acquired and sold Ilorin Eid Praying Ground, Emir's Palace and the Central Mosque.
The Speaker equally directed the House Committee on Lands and Housing to conduct a public hearing on the activities of the bureau to enable members of the public provide proofs and relevant documents on the alleged lands transactions by the bureau.
Atunwa then directed the committee to submit its report by October 15.
Contributing on the matter, the Majority Leader, AbdulGaniyu Abdulkareem, emphasised the need for the House to invite the management of the bureau for clarification in view of the sensitive nature of the matter.
But member representing Ilorin Central Constituency, Segilola Jimoh, said clearing the bushy prayer ground before the next Sallah celebrations should not be seen as an indication that the land has been sold by the bureau. She advised members of the public to always find out the truth before fabricating rumours capable of inciting the public against the government.
In their contributions, members representing Ilorin North West Constituency, Fatai Salman and Yashikira Constituency, Sabi urged the House to provide the platform for the public to substantiate the allegations and conduct public hearing, full oversight function into the activities of the bureau to enable the House and public have authentic information about the bureau's activities.
