Punish perpetrators of Ilorin mayhem, APC urges Police

Date: 2019-01-15

The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has called on the Police in the state to prosecute the perpetrators of the political violence that occurred on Sunday in Ilorin.

The APC Senatorial candidate for Kwara Central, Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, made the call in Ilorin on Monday at a press briefing.

The APC governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; and other party stalwarts attended the press conference.

"We urge the Police and other law enforcement agencies to bring everyone culpable in the political violence to book to avoid a repeat of such in future.

"We implore our members and supporters throughout the state not to be dissuaded by the unfortunate incident,'' Oloriegbe said.

He added that the APC members that were injured during the attack were currently receiving treatment in various hospitals in the metropolis.

Oloriegbe said a Mercedes Benz belonging to the party's House of Assembly candidate, Mr. Ayinla Ayilara, was vandalised, along with several other vehicles belonging to party members and their supporters.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that violence broke out on Sunday during the house-to-house campaign by Abdulrazaq at Ode Alfa Nda area of Ilorin.

NAN also reports that Abdulrazaq narrowly escaped death at the rally, as gunshots were fired at him during the crisis.

Oloriegbe said that no fewer than 30 vehicles belonging to APC members were vandalised.

"The unfortunate incident happened in the presence of law enforcement agents invited to provide security cover for the event.

"But the security agents became helpless when well-armed thugs numbering about 50 invaded the venue of the programme and unleashed terror on innocent APC members and supporters,'' Oloriegbe said.
