The Kwara state government yesterday approved the creation of a new Council of Establishment Matters with a mandate to advise the state government on how best to resolve problems relating to local government administration in the state.

Briefing journalists in Ilorin at the end of the state executive council meeting at the Government House, the state Head of Service (HOS) Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed said,’’ the council is non-political and purely advisory one".

The HOS said the establishment of the council was necessary in order to "resolve problems arising from staff recruitment, management and exit from service at the local government levels in the state" .

The council, which is under the supervision of the office of the HOS, consist of few permanent secretaries, administrative officers and Directors of Personnel (DPMs)at the local government levels.

He gave an example where some councils recruited staff and placed them above their qualification saying such normalise will be corrected through the council.

Also speaking the Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Communications, Dr Muyideen Akorede, said the council also directed the state Ministry of Works and Transport to fix the bad portion of Ilorin- Ajase- Ipo roads pending the intervention of the federal government.

He decried the bad state of the roads along Ilorin-Jebba roads in Kwara North senatorial district of the state, saying the government was mounting pressure on the federal government to fix the roads.
