Kidnapping: KWASU vows to protect students

Date: 2017-12-05

Following the kidnap and subsequent release of a 200 level female student of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, the Institution has beefed up security within and outside the campus, just as it vowed to stop at nothing to protect its students.

Speaking through its Director, Office of the University Relations, Dr. Isiaka Aliagan, the Institution insisted that only one student was involved in the kidnapping incident, as against the conflicting figures in some media reports.

"To the knowledge of the University, we only have one student who was kidnapped but she was eventually released," he clarified.

Aliagan, who stated that the kidnapped female student has since been reunited with her family, said security operatives were making efforts to track down the perpetrators and guard against a recurrence of such incident.

He said the University Safety Unit, in collaboration with security operatives, has intensified its patrol operations to protect the lives and properties of students, staff, and visitors to the Institution.

"We have registered transport operators and we also have our security officials closely monitoring their activities on and off-campus.

For instance, we have policemen stationed at the University gate to monitor those coming in and leaving the campus. They work hand-in-hand with the University Safety and other security personnel," the University's spokesman said.

"Management wishes to urge students to be security conscious, to patronise only registered transport and to report strange persons or movements around their hostels and campus," he advised.
