Salary Arrears: Union commends Harmony Holdings over N17m payment to Kwara Express workers

Date: 2017-10-26

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employees (AUPCTRE) has commended the Kwara State government and Harmony Holdings Limited (HHL) for offsetting 50 per cent (N17m) of the salaries owed Kwara Express workers.

The Kwara State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Kwara Express workers had given HHL ultimatum of last Friday to pay the salary arrears, which was exclusively reported by this medium.

Speaking to Pilot Business on Tuesday, the State Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade Saliu Oluwole Suleiman, said " We appreciate the Kwara State government and Harmony Holdings for the payment of 50 per cent of the arrears of Kwara Express workers."

Suleiman, however appealed to the state government and the management of the state-owned transport company to clear the salary arrears of the workers.

"We also appeal that the remaining 50 percent arrears of minimum wage, remittance of N10 million of Cooperatives, N7 million unremitted contributory pension and the N5 million unremitted for the National Housing Fund should be settled," he added.

The secretary urged members of the association, most especially Kwara Express workers to carry out their work diligently with sense of efficiency and professionalism.

He also called on all the branches of AUPCTRE to cooperate with the state body in terms of deduction of contributory percentage considering the recession period to enable them run the affairs of the Union effectively.
