Kwara LG Polls: Police Pledge Adequate Security

Date: 2017-08-11

The Police in Kwara on Thursday assured that adequate security would be provided during the councils elections in the state slated for Nov. 4.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Alhaji Ado Lawan, gave the assurance while receiving members of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) led by the Chairman, Dr AbdulRahman Ajidagba, who visited him.

The commission's visit was in continuation of its sensitization calls to security agencies and other stakeholders toward achieving credible, fair and free election. Lawan said that the command was working round-the-clock to ensure a trouble-free councils poll in every part of the state.

He warned those planning to cause trouble during the period to forsake such plot, saying that the police would deal ruthlessly with anyone or group involved in disorderliness in any part of the state.

The commissioner advised members of political parties participating in the polls to abide with the rules of the game and shun acts capable of causing rancour and acrimony.

The Chairman of the commission, Ajidagba, had earlier said that the visit was aimed at soliciting the cooperation of security agencies towards ensuring successful polls.

He commended the agencies in the state for the support the commission received during the last local government election in the state in 2013.

The commission also visited Department of State Service (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Nigeria lmmigration Service (NIS) commands, and Kwara Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA). (NAN)
