DEMOCRACY: Baraje cautions Nigerians against military intervention ,religious bigotry and ethnicity

Date: 2017-05-29

As the country is celebrating eighteen years of uninterrupted democratic rule, Nigerians have been cautioned against religious bigotry, ethnicity and acts that could truncate the peace and unity of the country.

A National Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje gave the warning at the weekend in a statement issued from his media office in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital to felicitate with the people of the country on democracy day.

Alhaji Baraje said the country has recorded another milestone in the democratic process through successful transmission of powers from different previous governments without rancor.

The APC Chieftain however warned against military interference in the democratic rule, pointing out that the recent alleged plot by some politicians and top military hierarchies to take over the government is uncalled for and charged Nigerians to protect the current democratic dispensation.

Alhaji Baraje also stressed the need for Nigerians to pray fervently for quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders in the task of piloting the affairs of the country.

Commenting on the two years in office of the All Progressives Congress led administration, he assured that the Party would keep to its electoral promises, saying that terrorism has been degraded in the North East, while the crime rate has also reduced.

Alhaji Baraje added that the anti corruption crusade of the All Progressives Congress led government has yielded positive results with huge amounts of money recovered to the treasury, promising that the government would also ensure the release of the remaining chibok school girls and others in the captivity of the boko haram terrorists.

On Ramadan fast, Alhaji Baraje asked Muslim faithful to use the occasion to strengthen their belief, worship and commitment to the propagation of Islam, urging them to also pray for economic recovery and other challenges confronting the nation.

The APC Chieftain described Ramadan as a month full of blessings and asked Muslims to refrain from acts that could affect their fast.
