Speaking in Ilorin, Obuh Breaks Silence on 'Old' Players' Recall
Flying Eagles handler, John Obuh, has broken silence on the criticism that trailed the invitation of some players who previously featured the National under-20 team to the present squad.
Speaking in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday, Obuh justified the inclusion of his former stars, stressing that his decision was based on the need for experience and continuity.
He said: "All the players recalled are within the age bracket. I invited these players because experience is very vital in any team. I don't see why their invitation should be criticised because they are still within the stipulated age bracket for the competition."
Abdul Ajagun, Efeda Egbedi, Bright Ejike are the former junior internationals in Flying Eagles current squad.
The former handler of Kwara United said further that despite his wards' 2-1 first leg advantage, he is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to record victory against Tanzania.
The second leg African Youth Championship qualifier comes up in Ilorin on Sunday between Nigeria and Tanzania.
The winner of the match will take on the winner between Congo and South Africa.
Hours after the media briefing on the team's build-up to this weekend's game, Obuh in company with top government functionaries of the Kwara State Government, paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulu Gambari, in his palace to seek royal blessing.
It is recalled that Nigeria's Flying Eagles beat Kwara United 2-1 in a warm-up game on Sunday at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
The game is to prepare the country's U20 team for next Sunday's African Youth Championship qualifier against Tanzania at the same venue.
Sharks striker, Bright Ejike, drew the Flying Eagles level on 55 minutes after Kabiru Sanusi gave Kwara the lead via a penalty on 50 minutes.
Dolphin star, Abduljaleel Ajagun, scored the winning goal for the African champions in the 64th minute off a rebound after Kwara United's goalkeeper kept out his first penalty kick.
