Kwara NUJ Suspends 6 Members for Alleged Forgery

Following the approval of the national secretariat, the Kwara State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has announced the suspension of six members of the union for alleged forgery.

In a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the union in the state, Mr. Stephen Oni and Mr. Asonibare Albert respectively, the accused members were suspended indefinitely from all union activities.

According the statement, "The national secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has approved the indefinite suspension of five members of the correspondents' chapel and a member of the Herald Chapel in the Kwara council of the union due to anti-union activities and outright disregard for the constituted authority.

The members, the statement furthers that were suspended for inciting other members of the union against the leadership of the state council, noting that the situation could have led to the breakdown of law and order in the state.

Meanwhile, the state council has been directed to drag the suspended members as well as others found to have hands in the allegation in the course of the investigation, before the ethics and disciplinary committee of the council to answer charges of incitement and forgery of official document.
