Oloyede charges engineers on quality

Engineers across the country have been urged to focus on quality in the execution of various engineering projects in the country

The vice-chanvellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said this while recieving members of the Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) led by its chairman, Engr. Maliki Kamila, in his office.

Oloyede, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation, RTI), Prof. F.A. Oladele, told the visiting team that aesthetics should also be of concern to them.

He disclosed that the University is in dire need of high quality products and structures, noting that because of the desires, the institution has upgraded its facilities to high standard and would continue to upgrade them.

The vice chancellor submitted that the engineering profession is highly respected but that the respect would be enhanced further through high and good quality jobs.

He commended the engineers for the role they have played in nation building and for their latest innovation; SOS NIGERIA, a device that is used for distress call.

Speaking earlier, the NSE chairman, Engr. Kamila, eulogized the vice chancellor, describing him as example of incorruptible leaders.

He said, "Oloyede has demonstrated commitment to maintaining the University's standard of 'better by far'. By the stroke of the pen, we cannot wish away your type of fearless and forthright service and we therefore pray that the country still engage you in the many areas of our current strive to build a better society".

Engr. Kamila said it was a privilege and rare honour to visit the university, adding that the Ilorin branch of NSE would be hosting the 44th National Conference of the society in December
