Athletics: Omotayo bags US scholarship, gets KWSG's

Kwara state government has approved and released the ticket fee for Omotayo Abolaji Oluwaseun, the state athlete who bagged full scholarship from South Lane University, Texas, US.

Disclosing this to The Heraldsports yesterday, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Pharmacist Kale Ayo Nuhu said that the state government, under the leadership of Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved over N600, 000 for the ticket fee for the 100m Youth Commonwealth champion, who is expected to jet out of the country next week.

The Commissioner commended the state government for the gesture, even as he charged the athlete to reciprocate the gesture by been a good ambassador of the state and the nation during her stay in the US.

He said that the state government will continue to encourage sports participation and also support athletes that distinguished themselves by doing the state and country proud.

It would be recalled that Omotayo, after representing Nigeria and winning gold in 100m at the Youth Commonwealth Games, was received and honoured by the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who also promised to send her coach, Adeyemi Abiodun Johnson to an international coaching course.

Adeyemi is the athletics coach for Kwara state.

Responding to the gesture, Coach Adeyemi commended the state government, saying that the gesture will boost the morale of other athletes, knowing fully well that the state is always ready to reward excellent in sports performance.

Adeyemi, who said that the coaching crew is working hard on future athletes, especially ahead of the National Youth Games, reminded the state government of the promise to send him to a coaching course abroad.
