NAFDAC laments worries over bread production in kwara

Date: 2016-08-24

The kwara state chapter of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has lamented that not more than fifty per cent of bread producers in the kwara state operate with up to date NAFDAC licenses.

Speaking with RoyalTimes correspondent, the state deputy director of NAFDAC, Mrs Roseline Ajayi said lots of bread producers are operating with expired licenses, while new bread producers fail to get NAFDAC approval.

While explaining the efforts of the agency towards ensuring food safety in state, the NAFDAC deputy director said the agency is set to get every bread producer registered or sanction any producer who failed to comply with the agency regulation.

She explained that series of enlightenment and persuasion had been carried out in a bid to ensure proper compliance, Ajayi said all bread producers must subject their products for NAFDAC inspection and laboratory analysis in a bid to ascertain the quality of their breads.

She noted that most bread producers do not write office address on their label which has been making it difficult for the agency to assess their locations.

Speaking on registration fee, Ajayi said the agency has not review the registration fee upward since 2010, noting that the registration fee for new bread producers remains thirty thousand naira in urban areas, while those who operate in rural areas are to pay fifteen thousand naira for registration.

The NAFDAC deputy director added that fifty per cent of such amount is collected for renewal of license.
