Don't Drag Me Into Jebba's Petty Squabbles - Emir of Ilorin

Date: 2016-07-12

Residents of Jebba in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State have been urged to go about their lawful businesses and desist from engaging in the breakdown of law and order in the community.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, in a statement issued by the National Secretary of Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Malam Abdulazeez Arowona, expressed concerns over the post-Eid el-Fitri prayer's fracas which occurred in the community and condoled with the families of those lost their lives and prays for quick recovery for the injured.

The statement also condemned an attempt by some group of people from the community who organized a press conference in Ilorin on Monday thereby parading Alhaji AbdulKadir Alabi Adebara as the Oba of Jebba stressing that "Such attempt is clearly misrepresenting as well as an act of impersonation.

According to the statement, "It is pertinent to advise Alhaji Adebara to desist from dragging the person of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to the mud petty rivalry happening in the Jebba Community. Alhaji Adebara's claims are not only barbaric but also uncharitable to the people of the area.

"To set the record straight, as the Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, the Emir of Ilorin has always championed advocacy talk for peaceful co-existence among the entire people of the state and ensuring that would-be crises are averted through consultations, dialogues and resolutions.

"The Emir has never and will never descend so low under any guise to the point of instigating citizens against each other thereby causing chaos as well as breakdown of law and order. The Emir will never connive with anybody or group of persons to alter or flout any section of the constitution which preaches peace and security.

"As a retired Presiding Judge of the Court of Appeal, the Emir understands the rudiments of law haven sat on numerous cases which has further enhanced justice to the oppressed across the country through his diligent and transparent discharge of duty.

"Coming back home as the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, his job among others is to ensure that traditional rulers continue to foster unity and harmony in their respective domains."

While reacting to whether Jebba is in the Ilorin Emirate or not, the statement disclosed that, "This can actually be confirmed through the presence of the Emir's Lieutenants in persons of the District Head of Lanwa, Alhaji Sa'adu Gambari, District Head of Ejidongari, Alhaji Issa Oloruntogun and the District Head of Ipaiye, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, all in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State."

The statement however advised the general public to disregard the submissions as contained in the text of address delivered by the co-travelers of Alhaji Adebara, and also see it as misleading and deliberate attempt at assassinating the character of the Emir of Ilorin.
