Polytechnics to commence Bachelor of Technology

Date: 2016-06-15

Arrangement has been concluded for all Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria to commence the running of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) very soon.

The Chairman, Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COHEADS) Alhaji Mas`ud Elelu made this known in Ilorin, Kwara state on Tuesday.

Elelu was speaking during a courtesy visit of Committee of Monotechnics and Polytechnics Librarians in Nigeria (COMPLIN) to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

Alhaji Elelu said that this development would help revive and boost the image of Polytechnics in Nigeria and give a better stand for the Polytechnics on the issue of parity between the B.sc and HND dichotomy.

He however, stated that the requirements for Bachelor of Technology Courses would be National Diploma (ND) from any reputable Polytechnic in Nigeria for a period of three years, as it is obtainable in the Universities.

The Chairman therefore called on Academic Union of Polytechnic, Non-Academic Union of Polytechnic and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic to join hands with the Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria to get a deserved attention from the Governments.

Elelu also called on COMPLIN to forward useful advice that would help the Council achieve the objectives of the founding fathers of the Polytechnics and Monotechnics in Nigeria.
