Intel, UNILORIN to spend $4 million on e-teaching, learning in Nigeria
 
    
American multinational technology company, Intel Corporation, has offered to collaborate with the University of Ilorin on the training of lecturers on latest teaching and learning technology.
Olubunmi Ekundare, Intel Country Manager, West Africa, disclosed this on Tuesday at a tripartite meeting, which had attendance, representatives of the company, Abdulganiyu Ambali, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe, Kwara State Commissioner for Information and Communication Technology.
According to Ekundare, the partnership was signed in a bid to integrate technology into the classroom and bring the latest technology to bear on teaching and learning at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).? He said, "We want to partner the University of Ilorin and the Kwara State government to bring our technology to these communities. We are committed to expanding the reach, affordability and accessibility of technology."
He noted that Intel, which is one of world's largest and highest valued semi-conductorchip makers, is passionate about digital literacy entrepreneurship, stressing that technology is a tool which is a means to an end. Ekundare added that "Through computing innovation, we push the boundaries of smart and connected technology to make amazing experiences possible for every person on earth.
"From powering the latest devices and the cloud you depend on; to driving policy, diversity, sustainability, and education, we create value for our stockholders, customers, and society." .
He assured that the partnership with the Kwara State Government and the University of Ilorin would be a continuous exercise, disclosed that Intel would be pumping $4 million to Nigeria to facilitate the training and awareness programmes of the company in Nigeria.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out that e-teaching and e-learning are of great interest to the University, saying that the University has already raised a committee to see to the bridging the gap between the Information Communication Technology (ICT) driven younger generation and their older lecturers.
Ambali further explained that, the PC Tablets, which should have been distributed to the 100 Level students, were being delayed because of the problem posed by the exchange rate, assuring that the products were already being cleared at the port and would soon be distributed to all the new students.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked Intel Corporation for its gesture while commending the Kwara State Commissioner for Information and Communication Technology for his interest in technology and youth empowerment.
Ambali submitted that whatever activity being carried out in the University would have a positive impact on the Ilorin community as a whole, citing the example of the proposed 500 megawatts of power to be generated in the University for the use of the entire nation.
With the Intel Country Manager at the meeting were other staff members of the company, who included Adim Isiakpona, Marketing Manager; Olabanji Womiloju, Consumer Business Lead; Samson Ihenekwele, Channel Manager; Ojo Olamide, Retail Marketing Manager; and Akinola Babatunde, Corporate Affairs Manager.
