Empowerment: Deputy Speaker doles out N1.4m to Constituency

Date: 2016-05-19

The Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Okedare said that the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government was not done to add more pains to sufferings of the citizens.

Rather, he noted that the intention is to make the product more available and create more competition in the industry.

Okedare stated this at the weekend while speaking at Lanwa/Ejidongari Constituency meeting of the All progressives Congress (APC) held at Olokonla Village, Moro Local Government.

He said Nigerians had been suffering before they could get fuel above the approved price even when the subsidy was not removed, noting that such step would make the product available and open for competition in the supply and its distribution.

The Deputy Speaker stressed that the Federal Government meant well for the people even though the subsidy removal might be too harsh presently, stressing that Nigerians would soon reap the gain.

He noted that the meeting was to acquaint his people with government activities and plans as well as the situation of governance in the state.

He disclosed that the state government had approved procurement of five transformers for communities in the constituency, adding that five boreholes would be sunk in each ward in the constituency.

The Deputy Speaker revealed that he was able to facilitate the inclusion of Oke-Oyi/Lanwa road in the state 2016 budget.

Okedare further disclosed that the government had put necessary arrangement in place to assist the farmers through the cooperative society whereby tractors among other farm implements would be made available to farmers.

He expressed happiness that his efforts and sacrifice at ensuring total rehabilitation of Ilorin-Jebba Road eventually materialised and commended the Federal Government for its quick response to the people's plight.

The legislator commended the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad among other well-meaning Kwarans for their frantic efforts in making the projects a reality.

In his remarks, a member representing Oloru/Malete Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed said that the ongoing verification of the state's civil servants was to block the loopholes in the management of government resources.

Earlier, the APC Chairman in the council, Alhaji Amao Sanusi who attributed Saraki's trial to politics said nothing could affect his leadership at the National Assembly.

He however called for continued support for the party as the local government election approaches in order to ensure maximum victory at the poll.

The meeting featured presentation of cash worth N1.4million to two victims of rainstorm, vigilante groups as well as party executives, members and supporters in all the seven wards that make up Lanwa/Ejidongari Constituency.

Some of the party members and supports who spoke during the meeting commended Hon. Okedare for his efforts at ensuring the welfare of the people, particularly the facilitation of total rehabilitation of Shao/Jebba/Bode-Saadu Road.
