NVAA Asks Danladi Umar To Step Down As CCT Chair
Newspaper Vendors Association of Abuja (NVAA) has demanded that Danladi Umar step down as chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal noting that his integrity was questionable, having been involved in N10m bribery case investigated by the EFCC.
A statement signed by the chairman of the association, Samuel Jimoh and the secretary, Ubangha Ubangha, said the administrative bail granted Umar, under the auspices of the former Attorney General of the Federation, Adoke Muhammed was not synonymous to a court judgment and as such, he should "see himself less worthy to chair the panel trying Saraki".
Disassociating itself from supporting the incumbent senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the group expressed concern that the judiciary would be influenced in the delivery of justice, with Umar as the chairman.
"The charges raised against Saraki were allegedly committed over 13 years ago as the governor of Kwara State. Before now, nobody, no government agency has questioned his (Saraki's) asset declaration since 2003. Why was it not in the public interest to prosecute him at the time? Why is he suddenly being persecuted after he assumed the role of the senate president?"
According to the group, Saraki's offence hanged on his refusal to 'back a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket to pair President Muhammad Buhari and APC national leader, Bola Tinubu at APC's general elections.
