Why we introduce tax education in secondary schools - KWIRS
Executive chairman, kwara state Internal Revenue Service (KWRIS), Dr. Muritala Awodun, has said the service established tax clubs in secondary school to introduce tax education to students in the state.
He said with the introduction of tax education in schools, students would have a clear understanding of the role of the tax in the development of an economy apart from creating an interactive atmosphere for students.
Awodun maintained that the clubs would provide enabling environment for the students to share ideals and contribute to the economic development of the state and Nigeria at large.
Speaking at the inauguration of the clubs at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School Hall Ilorin, the KWIRS chairman said the students were expected to prepare for essay, quiz and debate competitions under the tutelage of their coordinators while outstanding students and the schools would be awarded handsome prizes.
He disclosed that the clubs, started from kwara Central, would soon be replicated in two other senatorial districts in the state.
In his address at the programme, the commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Engr. Musa Yeketi, who was represented at the programme by the Director of Schools in the ministry, Mrs. Titi Adeoti, thanked the KWRIS for introduction of the programme, pledging the ministry support for the initiative.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman of Parents, Teachers Association Kwara State chapter, the first Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye,commended the state government and revenue service for setting the pace for better academic performance through the formation of tax clubs in schools.
