Issa Aremu calls for resignation of governors owing salaries
The General Secretary of National Union of Textile and Garment Workers Union, Comrade Issa Aremu has called on the state governors who are owing their workers arrears of salaries to immediately pay or resign from office.
Aremu noted that any governor who could not pay workers their monthly salary as at when due has no moral right to remain in office, adding that such governors have betrayed the masses that elected them in the first place.
Aremu said this in Ilorin, while addressing journalists during the occasion of his 55th birthday.
He said, "Non-payment of salaries amounts to deliberate strangulation of the working people through a denial of their incomes which has led to untimely death of workers, withdrawal of their children from schools and mass poverty."
Aremu also condemned senators over their insistence on buying new cars in the face of dwindling revenue accruing to federal government.
"I agree with Senate President Bukola Saraki that National Assembly should enhance its oversight function. But those who ask for equity should come with clean hands. Who oversees the senators when they are buying new cars in an economy that is totally depressed?
"Senators should emulate President Buhari and tow the path of prudence and selflessness," he said.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the 2016 appropriation bill, saying ,"If the spirit and content of the 2016 budget is fully implemented, Nigeria is undoubtedly on the match to economic recovery and renaissance once again.I salute President Buhari's courage for presenting what I call a Budget Unusual."
